8. Ukrainians & Russians Seek Refuge in Bitcoin
Life during wartime. That’s what the Ukrainians and Russians have been experiencing during the Russian invasion of 2022, which started in February. With Ukrainian banks and internet connections being severely hampered and with Russia being hit with sanctions from foreign nations, the citizens of both countries have turned to Bitcoin to store and exchange wealth.
7. Bitcoin Conference Miami ‘22 Draws 35,000
The Bitcoin Magazine Conference in Miami Beach in April drew a record 35,000 people, or should I say, Bitcoiners. Among the topics discussed was the regulation landscape for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Here is one of the sessions I covered for the magazine. Great stuff, fantastic speakers, throughout the three days.

6. New York State Taking Steps to Ban Crypto Mining
One of the bigger stories of the year, nationwide, though not one of the more optimistic. The state ended up imposing a two-year moratorium on crypto mining that is not done using renewable sources. We stayed up on this throughout the year, covering several press conferences and legislative actions.
