Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the 69-year-old son of former US Attorney General Bobby Kennedy, has become a pretty outspoken proponent of Bitcoin. Kennedy just last month announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. So his Bitcoin advocacy is a pretty big deal.
RFK Jr. is the fifth, yes fifth, member of his family to run for the presidency. He joins his father, his uncles John F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy, as well as his uncle Sargent Shriver, in seeking the post.
Haven’t heard about Robert Jr’s candidacy? Or anything about his positions? It’s not surprising. The mainstream media has attached their own adjective to his name, usually referring to him as “anti-vaxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.”
He is an outspoken critic of mandatory vaccines and is the Chair of Children’s Health Defense. The group alleges that many children are suffering from autism, attention deficit disorder, food allergies, and other autoimmune disorders as a result of exposure to certain chemicals, some found in vaccines, flouride and even wireless cell signals. He also penned a book, titled The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health. Needless to say, his views are controversial, and he doesn’t have widespread support at this time.
His views on Bitcoin, however, are far less divisive. He really seems to get it. See Kennedy’s discourse on Bitcoin, below.
He pushes back on unfair FUD concerning Bitcoin’s energy usage, and backs his views up with facts. He is staunchly opposed to the United States effectively pushing innovation overseas through its heavy-handed regulations on the crytpo industry.
And he has sternly criticized the Biden administration’s proposed 30% tax on the electricity used in cryptocurrency mining. It’s not a surprise that he opposes this idea. No other industry has been targeted by such a tax, not even marijuana production, not alcohol production, not cigarette manufacturing.
He also seems to be an advocate for privacy and freedoms for American citizens, so he is sure to be a hit with Bitcoiners. Though in many ways he aligns with principles of the Democratic party, he in some ways embodies ideals of Libertarians. He may have the Bitcoin vote.
Kennedy is an environmental lawyer and partner in the law firms of Morgan & Morgan and of Kennedy & Madonna, LLP and is an advocate for environmental justice. Through litigation, lobbying, teaching, and public campaigns and activism, Kennedy has advocated for the protection of waterways, indigenous rights, and renewable energy. (Per Wikipedia page).
Announced as Speaker at Miami Beach
Yes, RFK Jr. has even, this week, been announced as a speaker at the Bitcoin Conference 2023, to be held from May 18th to the 20th in Miami Beach. His talk is sure to draw a crowd. It’s not often you get to see a Kennedy in person.
He’s not the only politician to make an appearance at this year’s event. Former Congresswoman Tusli Gabbard will be speaking, as will Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis. Lummis is a big Bitcoin proponent and spoke at last year’s conference as well.
I’ll be attending the conference and hope to see and hear RFK Jr. talk about Bitcoin. I’ll report back; stay tuned.
