Day number one at Bitcoin Magazine’s annual Bitcoin Conference was called “Industry Day,” and featured pitches from Bitcoin developers, as well as a full trade show and expo. Lots of great stuff, and also talks from some of Bitcoin’s true rockstars.
Think, Michael Saylor, Preston Pysh, Jack Mallers, Saifedean Ammous. A Who’s Who of Bitcoin.
One of the more interesting presentations, to many Bitcoiners, was entitled, “What Happened - DCG.” You may recall from previous issues that Digital Currency Group (DCG) and its related companies, Genesis Capital and the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, had faced a liquidity crisis and defaulted on some debt obligations. To the tune of $2 billion. So, it’s no small matter. It affects over 800,000 retail investors.
Bitcoiners who had lent their coins to earning platforms, such as Gemini Earn, have seen their Bitcoin stuck in limbo as all sides try to work out a solution. The consensus coming out of today’s panel felt that DCG would not eventually file for bankruptcy. That’s good news for investors. However, they conceded that working out an equitable soultion would take time. And with more time, uncertainty continues to grow.
A Lot of Fun Stuff Too
I mean, what’s more fun at a conference than a mechanical bull? So far, no one has been able to ride the bull for more than 33 seconds. Whether or not this writer took a stab at the bull, I’ll leave it for you to speculate.
There was also a huge “Women in Bitcoin” brunch, dispelling the myth that Bitcoin is only for the “crypto bros.” And it even featured Bitcoin coffee.
And even stuff for the littlest Bitcoiners:
Friday Features the Big Speakers
